YEDC Reversed back to old tariffs

3/10/20. 12 PM  TARIFF

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company has suspended implementation of the increased electricity tariffs that have been widely condemned and over which the Organised Labour scheduled a nationwide strike last Monday.

Labour suspended the strike after the Federal Government agreed the new electricity tariffs would be suspended but the distribution companies (DisCos) held to the new tariffs.

Yola DisCo told The Nation on Tuesday it was yet to be directed by its regulatory agency.

However, on Wednesday, the Corporate Affairs Manager of the company, Mr. Kingsley Nkemneme, said the company had received communication from the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to revert to the old tariffs and it had done so.
The YEDC and the 10 other DisCos across the country had increased their tariffs from September 1 after NERC agreed they needed earnings from the new rates to carry on business and make an appreciable profit.
