Retired General T.Y Danjuma has again called on Nigerians to take up arms against terrorists and bandits. The former Minister of Defence made a similar call in 2018, a comment which pitched him against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Breaking News. The federal high court Jalingo dismissed all the prayers of Prof. Jerome Nyame against the emergence of Col. Agbu Kefas rtd as the PDP Gubernatorial candidate.  Prof. Jerome was challenging the eligibility of his candidacy, saying that, agbu Kefas as a party state chairman has not follows due process in contesting the post. 13 killed as bandits and vigilantes clashes in Gassol local government in taraba state.

At least 13 persons have been reported killed after a bandit attack in Karekuka village of Gassol local government area of Taraba state. Many others were also left injured. A source who confirmed the incident to Channels Television via telephone said no fewer than six local vigilante members lost their lives in the Friday attack. The source disclosed that the vigilantes also killed six of the bandits. Meanwhile, the bandits also attacked Garin Gidado community on Saturday morning but met it empty, the source added. Police brutalise commercial motorcycle rider for refusing to pay bribe

A commercial motorcycle (okada) operator in Lagos State, Andrew Otega, has been brutalized by the police in Yaba area of the state over his alleged failure to offer N40,000 bribe demanded by the operatives. It was gathered that some police operatives enforcing the ban on motorcycle operations in the area apprehended Otega at the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) gate where he operates and impounded his motorcycle. After impounding the motorcycle, the police allegedly demanded a bribe of N40,000 from the rider for them to release his bike but the motorcyclist said he did not have such money on him. Angered by the rider’s response and unwillingness to offer the requested bribe, the operatives aggressively harassed him before confiscating his motorcycle.

N1.85bn Loot: Buratai Slams N10bn Libel Suit Against Online Newspaper

In the suit with number FCT/HC/CV/252/2022 filed by his lawyer, Dr Reuben Atabo (SAN), Buratai asked the FCT High Court to declare that Sahara Reporters’ publication captioned “Exclusive: Anti-graft agency, ICPC uncovers billions in cash meant for arms, ammunition to fight Boko Haram in Abuja home of ex-Chief of Army Staff, Buratai” of June 23, 2022 amounts to defamation of character. He further demands an order of the court compelling the newspaper to publish a retraction and an apology in two national dailies and its online platform “where the defamatory publication was made.” Buratai, who was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to the Benin Republic after he retired from the army, averred that the publication damaged his reputation after he diligently served Nigeria in various capacities and was awarded various meritorious honours for his distinguished service. No date has been fixed for the hearing.

10 northern cities to record temperatures of above40° C- NiMET

The Meteorological Service (NiMET) says at least 10 northern cities would record high temperatures of over 40°C for the next three days. NiMET also said that some of the northern cities would record high temperatures of 35°C to 40°C for the next 72 hours.  The forecast, which was signed by Prof. Mansur Matazu, the Director-General of NiMET said that beginning from Sunday, May 29 to May 31, 2022, the cities would witness the high temperature. He mentioned the northern cities as parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno States. The statement said: “Most parts of the Northern cities are expected to record temperatures between 35°C to 40°C. EFCC Arrests  Ahmed Idris, Accountant General of the Federation for N80billion Fraud Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  on Monday, May 16, 2022 arrested serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris in connection with  diversion of funds and money laundering  activities to the tune of N80billion (Eighty Billion Naira) only. The Commission’s verified intelligence showed that the AGF  raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates. The funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja. Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.

A signing ceremony was held at the federal executive council (FEC) chamber in the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday. Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, and Kayode Fayemi, chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) are among the dignitaries present at the ceremony. The legislation was transmitted to the president on January 31 after both chambers of the national assembly had reworked it. Buhari had initially rejected the bill after the national assembly made direct primary compulsory for political parties in the country. The president said the provision “violates the spirit of democracy”. It was on that basis the senate and house of representatives reworked the bill to provide for indirect and direct primary, as well as consensus candidates. CBN reduces charges on bank transactions

FIMANCIAL NEWS  January 28, 2022 The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a downward review of charges for electronic banking transactions in its revised guidelines to charges by Banks, Other Financial Institutions (OFIs) and Non-Bank Financial Institutions. A circular by Chibuzor Efobi, for the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, stated that the review was in response to “further evolution in the financial industry in the last few years’’. The apex bank stated that the new guide included review of other bank charges to align with market developments. It stated that it also comprised inclusion of new sections on accountability /responsibility and a sanction regime  to directly address instances of excess unapproved, (arbitrary) charges. It added that the revised guidelines took effect from January 1. The CBN has the mandate to issue the guide to bank charges. The guide provides a basis for the application of charges on various products and services

The Central Bank of Nigeria has stated that individuals in need of funds don’t need to know anybody to collect loans from banks, and should desist from borrowing from loan sharks. This was disclosed by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele at the first MPC meeting of 2022. The apex bank governor expressed his displeasure in the way loan sharks handle customers who default.According to CBN “you don’t need to know anybody, just go into the portal, fill the form, send your data. If your data is correct you would be able to access loans.” He added, “We have a large number of testimony of people accessing loan cavity without knowing anybody and they have benefited from it”.  The CBN governor cautioned the public saying, “if you go to a loan shark to borrow you would pay two or three times the amount in 90 days.
