Police brutalise commercial motorcycle rider for refusing to pay bribe

A commercial motorcycle (okada) operator in Lagos State, Andrew Otega, has been brutalized by the police in Yaba area of the state over his alleged failure to offer N40,000 bribe demanded by the operatives. It was gathered that some police operatives enforcing the ban on motorcycle operations in the area apprehended Otega at the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) gate where he operates and impounded his motorcycle. After impounding the motorcycle, the police allegedly demanded a bribe of N40,000 from the rider for them to release his bike but the motorcyclist said he did not have such money on him. Angered by the rider’s response and unwillingness to offer the requested bribe, the operatives aggressively harassed him before confiscating his motorcycle.
