A former governor of Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa, is dead.

Mr Musa’s death was announced by his political associate and former senator, Shehu Sani

Balarabe Musa was elected governor of Kaduna State in 1979 but was later controversially impeached and removed from office.

He is considered a progessive and worked with people of like minds to mobilise against the military junta of late Sani Abacha.

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared APC candidate Abner Shittu Dahbo winner of Saturday’s bye election for Karim 1 State Constituency of the Taraba State House of Assembly. The APC candidate clinched the seat with 5,895 votes defeating the PDP candidate Ajuji Kanda Ali who got 5,488 votes, Badina Garba of the ADC, a renowned medical Doctor in the state who scored 1774 votes and the SDP candidate Abubakar Jamilu Garba who followed them with 149 votes. UN unearths 50 mass graves in Democratic Republic of Congo

A  United Nations  rights group has unearthed more than 50 mass graves in the western  Democratic Republic of Congo  after a spate of killings were reported in the region last month. Abdoul Aziz Thioye, the director of the UN Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO), said on Saturday that "more than 50 mass graves, as well as common and individual graves that we have identified," were uncovered in the town of Yumbi in the DRC's western province of  Mai-Ndombe . "This suggests that the number [of deaths] is quite high because a communal grave depending on size may contain five, ten bodies" or even "one hundred bodies or four times more," Thioye said following a joint fact-finding mission with local authorities.
